July uprising victims to get financial aid, allowances

Families of those martyred in the July uprising will receive a one-time payment of Tk 30 lakh in savings certificates, while the injured will get financial aid and monthly allowances, based on different categories.

Liberation War Affairs Adviser Farooq E Azam shared the information with the reporters on Monday (February 17) after the third session of the second day of the Deputy Commissioners' (DC) Conference at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka.

The adviser said that families of martyrs will get Tk 30 lakh in savings certificates. Out of this, Tk 10 lakh will be provided in the current fiscal year, while the remaining Tk 20 lakh will be given from July in the next fiscal year.

He also said the injured will be classified into three categories. Those in Category A, who are severely injured, will receive Tk 5 lakh as a one-time payment and a monthly allowance of Tk 20,000. Category B includes individuals who lost a limb; they will receive Tk 3 lakh along with a Tk 15,000 monthly allowance. They will also receive training and be given priority for jobs in government, semi-government, and private institutions based on merit, not quotas. Those in Category C, who have recovered after treatment, will not receive financial assistance but will get priority in rehabilitation, including jobs.

Farooq E Azam also announced that the martyrs of the uprising will be officially recognized as "July Martyrs," and their families will receive certificates and identity cards. The injured will be known as "July Warriors."

The process of establishing a July Department is in its final stage and will be completed this week, he added.
