The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against former Railways Minister and ex-MP of Cumilla-11, Mujibul Haque, and his wife, Hanufa Akter Rikta, on charges of amassing illegal wealth.
ACC Director General Akhter Hossain confirmed the matter to the media on Monday (February 17).
According to the ACC, Mujibul Haque allegedly misused power for personal gain and acquired wealth worth Tk 7.39 crore beyond known sources of income. A case has been filed against him under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, along with Section 2 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
Meanwhile, his wife, Hanufa Akter Rikta, has been accused of accumulating Tk 3.28 crore in illegal assets in collusion with her husband while he was in public office. She has been charged under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2005, while Mujibul Haque has been charged under Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947, and Section 109 of the Penal Code in a separate case.
