The officer-in-charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station, Shehabur Rahman, has been withdrawn following an attack on a photojournalist during a live broadcast.
The attack took place after a schoolboy was killed in a road accident in Kushtia.
Shehabur Rahman was removed on Sunday night for allegedly delaying the filing of a complaint regarding the incident.
However, police have not yet arrested any of the attackers.
Following the incident, local journalists staged a human chain and sit-in protest in front of the Superintendent of Police's office on Monday (February 17) at 11 am. They also issued a 48-hour ultimatum demanding the arrest of those responsible.
On Sunday Imran Hossain, a photojournalist from the local daily, was live-streaming the aftermath of a schoolboy’s death caused by a trolley accident in front of Pratiti School.
Later, drug addicted Rocky, 32, and Ariful, 33, along with 10-12 others, attacked Imran in the presence of police. They used local weapons to assault him, leaving him injured.
Fellow journalists later rescued him and took him to Kushtia General Hospital.
Imran Hossain later filed a written complaint at Kushtia Model Police Station.
Kushtia Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman said a case was registered on Sunday night, and legal action is being taken against those involved.
