Dinajpur's Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant has resumed operations after a four-day shutdown caused by a mechanical fault.
Power generation began from Unit No. 1, with a capacity of 125 MW, on Saturday, February 22, at 5:29 PM. Currently, the unit is generating 62 MW of electricity.
Md. Abubakar Siddique, Chief Engineer of Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant, confirmed the restart on Sunday (February 23).
He said that parts needed for the repair of Unit No. 3 have been sent to Dhaka, and efforts are underway to bring it back online soon. Unit No. 2 has remained shut since November 2020 due to a mechanical issue, he added.
The shutdown was triggered by a leak in the boiler of Unit No. 1 on February 18, halting power production. With Units 2 and 3 already out of operation, the plant had ceased electricity generation entirely.
The plant's three units collectively have a power generation capacity of 525 MW. Units 1 and 2 can each generate 125 MW, while Unit 3 has a capacity of 275 MW.
