A fire that broke out early Tuesday (April 15) in a slum in the CRB area of Chattogram, gutted at least 20 houses. 

The blaze, caused by a short circuit, started around 5 am and was extinguished by 6:30 am, according to Abdur Razzak, Deputy Assistant Director of Chattogram Fire Service.

Although there were no reported casualties, the fire caused significant damage, with property losses estimated at Tk16 lakh. 

Local residents initially attempted to contain the flames, but the fire quickly spread due to the densely packed, poorly constructed homes in the slum. 

Eventually, five firefighting engines were deployed to bring the fire under control.
