Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul today said that the next general elections will be held between December 2025 and June 2026, in line with the pledge made by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

“Whatever anyone says, the polls will not be held after June,” Dr Nazrul told reporters after a BNP delegation met with Chief Adviser Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna.

He noted that the BNP has requested elections be held by December 2025 and described the meeting as cordial, praising the party’s sincerity regarding political reforms.

Dr Nazrul also mentioned that the election roadmap will be unveiled two months prior to the polls. Regarding the trial of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India on August 5, he assured there would be no delay in proceedings.

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, along with Deputies Apurba Jahangir and Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, were present at the briefing.

The BNP delegation was led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and included senior leaders Jamiruddin Sirkar, Salahuddin Ahmed, Mirza Abbas, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, and Nazrul Islam Khan.
