58-day sea fishing ban begins today

A 58-day government-imposed ban on fishing in the Bay of Bengal begins at midnight tonight and will remain in effect until June 11, aiming to protect marine fish breeding and ensure sustainable production.

The ban applies to all fishing vessels in coastal areas, including Bhola and surrounding districts.

To support affected fishermen, each registered sea-going fisherman will receive 78 kilograms of rice during the ban, said Bhola District Fisheries Officer Biswajit Kumar Deb.

Around 65,000 fishermen are registered in the district, though local leaders claim the actual number may exceed 100,000.

The Coast Guard, Navy, and Fisheries Department will patrol the Bay to enforce the ban.
