Father killed for protesting daughter's harassment in Rajshahi

A 45-year-old man was killed in Rajshahi city on Wednesday night after confronting local youths who had allegedly been harassing his daughter, according to police and family members.

The incident occurred around 10:30 pm in the Talaimari Shaheed Minar area.

The victim, Akram Hossain, a bus driver and member of the Rajshahi District Motor Workers Union, had previously warned the youths to stop harassing his daughter.

Family members said that the accused became enraged by his protests and threatened him.

According to them, on Wednesday night, the assailants reportedly entered Akram's home and attacked him. He was beaten and struck with a brick, leaving him critically injured. Akram was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries later that night.

The family has identified three local youths—Nantu, Vishal, and Ratan—as being involved in the attack.

Boalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mostaq Hasan confirmed the incident.

He said that Akram's body was sent for autopsy, and preparations are underway to file a murder case. Police are actively working to apprehend the suspects, he added.
