The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a ban on all forms of public gatherings, rallies, and processions in and around the Bangladesh Secretariat and the residence of Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order.
In a public notice issued on Saturday (May 10), DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali announced the restrictions under Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No. III/76).
The order takes effect immediately and will remain in force until further notice.
The restricted areas include the Bangladesh Secretariat and the vicinity of the Chief Advisor’s official residence, Jamuna, along with key surrounding intersections such as the Hotel Intercontinental, Kakrail Mosque, Officers Club, and Mintu Road.
"This step has been taken in the interest of ensuring the security of the Chief Advisor and preserving law and order in sensitive government zones," the notice said.
Authorities have urged citizens to comply with the order and warned that legal action would be taken against those who violate the restrictions.
