President to inaugurate national programme on NazrulÔÇÖs birth anniversary

Mymensingh: The national programme to celebrate the 111th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam is all set for staging at Darirampur of Trishal on May 25 (Tuesday).

President Mohammad Zillur Rahman would inaugurate the three-day Nazrul festival at 11:30am on the day, officials said.

All the preparations, including the grand stage on the Nazrul Academy premises, have been completed. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs has taken up the programme.

“The admirers and followers of Nazrul are in a festive mood for the upcoming celebrations at Trishal and in the district headquarters of Mymensingh,” reports banglanews24.com.bd correspondent after a sightseeing visit.

Government television channels BTV and BTV World along with the other private channels will broadcast the entire programme live.

Advocate Promod Mankin, State Minister for Cultural Affairs, will preside over the function. LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam will be a special guest on the occasion.

Famous Nazrul researcher Dr. Karunamay Goswami will present commemorative lecture at the opening ceremony. Local MP advocate Reza Ali and cultural secretary Hedayetullah Al Mamun will also join the programme as speakers.

Begum Khilkhil Kazi, granddaughter of the late rebel poet, will also deliver a speech as special guest.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Gen.) of Mymensingh Md. Mohsin said, “There would be a splendid cultural programme on the inaugural day.”

Besides, there will be a book fair in the Nazruil Academy field and a Grameen fair at Nazrul Degree College.

Programmes have also been taken up for Bichutia Bepari Bari and Simla Daroga Bari, in the locality, that bear the poet’s memories, Mohsin informed.
