Comilla: A train derailed in Sadar upazila on Sunday morning, disrupting rail communications on 30 routes to the capital, Dhaka, and country’s eastern parts for four hours.

Railway sources said a goods-laden bogie of Chittagong-bound Subarna Express from Dhaka fell off the tract in-between Rasulpur and Rajapur stations at about 9am.

Thousands of passengers suffered for the communications cutoff with Dhaka and 30 eastern routes, including Chittagong, Sylhet, Comilla and Noakhali lines.

Railway traffic resumed at 1pm after a relief train from Laksam cleared the line by conducting salvage operation.

Assistant executive engineer of Comilla station Shamsul Alam said, “Lack of skill of the drivers cause frequent accidents on the route.”

A total of 11 accidents have occurred within 10 kilometers of Comilla Zone of railway in last one month, sources said.
