DHAKA: Bangladesh Tuesday called for collective international action for an immediate end to Israeli siege to Gaza and allowing the Palestinian people to return to normal life.

The country condemned the attack by the Israeli troops on the Freedom flotilla transporting humanitarian aid to the besieged Palestinians.

“Bangladesh is shocked and saddened at the unwarranted attack on unarmed civilians on board the Mavi Marmara and the resultant loss of lives,” a statement of the Foreign Ministry said.

Dhaka also expressed profound condolences and sincerest sympathies for the bereaved families and joins in prayer for the eternal peace of the departed souls.

The flotilla departed from Cyprus Sunday, bound for Gaza, with around 600 people from 50 different countries on board. Laden with 10,000 tonnes of aid, the convoy was intercepted by helicopters and warships 65 kilometres off the Gaza coast.

A live video feed showed Israeli forces boarding one vessel and opening fire on passengers and crews in the carnage that left at least 10 dead.
