Mujahid on 3-day remand in ÔÇÖ71 genocide case

DHAKA: Jamaat Secretary-General and ex-minister Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid was Thursday remanded for three days in a ‘1971 genocide’ case filed with Pallabi Police Station.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Rokhsana Begum Happy granted the remand after CID inspector Nurul Islam Siddiqui, also the investigation officer of the case, produced Mujahid before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.

The court also rejected the remand repeal and bail petitions.

During the hearing, Additional Public Prosecutor Shah Alam Talukder told the court that Mujahid was the former president of East Pakistan Islami Chhatra Sangha and organizer of Rajakar Bahini. “A total of 344 people of Alokdi village were killed by the accused persons led by him,” he said.

A defence lawyer instantly refuted the accusations. “The allegation against the accused is false as he wasn’t involved in the killing,” said Abdur Razzak.   

Freedom fighter Ameer Hossain Mollah filed the case on January 24, 2008 on charge of mass killings during the liberation war, arson attacks and marauding.

Earlier on Wednesday, the same court granted five days’ remand each to detained Jamaat leaders Muhammad Kamaruzzaman and Abdul Quader Mollah in the same case.
