Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Thursday (Dec 12) announced a series of programmes to observe the Martyred Intellectuals Day on December 14 and celebrate the Victory Day on December 16.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi unveiled the details at a press conference held at the party’s Nayapaltan Central Office, following a joint meeting of the party leadership and its associate bodies.
The meeting also paid heartfelt tribute to the Founder Chairman of BNP, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, who was a valiant freedom fighter and the declarer of Bangladesh’s independence, praying for the salvation of his departed soul.
To mark Martyred Intellectuals Day, Rizvi announced that BNP leaders and activists will pay homage to the martyrs at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Memorial on the morning of December 14. On this solemn occasion, the party will fly the national flag at half-mast and hoist black flags at all its offices, including the Nayapaltan headquarters. A discussion will also be held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh at 2:00 PM on December 14, with various BNP units organizing similar events across the country.
Rizvi also stated that BNP will hoist both the national and party flags atop its offices in the morning. Senior leaders and activists of the party will lay wreaths at the National Mausoleum in Savar, followed by a visit to the grave of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Banglanagar, where they will offer prayers for his soul.
Besides, a discussion will be arranged at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh on the afternoon of December 15. In a show of national celebration, an open music concert will be held at Manik Mia Avenue at 3:00 PM on December 16, organized by the group ‘Sobar Age Bangladesh’ (Bangladesh before all).
The BNP will also illuminate its Nayapaltan central office and the Gulshan office of the BNP Chairperson in a festive display to mark the occasion.
BNP’s different units and associate bodies will also mark the day with various programmes across the country.
