Banned BCL leader Sajib arrested in Hazaribagh

The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Sajibur Rahman Sajib, president of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Bijoy Ekattor Hall unit, on Friday night in connection with the attack on the anti-discrimination student movement at Dhaka University (DU).

Sajib was apprehended in a raid at Hazaribagh’s Zafarbad area at 11:30 pm, following a thorough investigation that involved CCTV footage, intelligence, and technology, according to DB Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman.

The attack occurred on July 15, 2024, when BCL activists and other Awami League-affiliated groups clashed with DU students protesting against discrimination, injuring over 300 students. A case was filed by student Md. Abu Sayad Bin Mahin Sarkar on October 21, with Sajib named as the 14th accused.

Sajib has been sent to court following his arrest.
