BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman extended his warmest greetings to women around the world, including in Bangladesh, on the occasion of International Women’s Day. 

In a message, he emphasized the significance of the day, highlighting the importance of women’s economic, political, and social progress for the overall development of nations.

Tarique recalled the efforts of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, who took groundbreaking steps to increase women’s participation in society and state activities, and noted the achievements of Begum Khaleda Zia’s government in advancing women’s socio-economic development. 

Under her leadership, he said, primary school enrollment for girls reached 97%, and various initiatives were introduced, including scholarships and gender equality in schools.

He said the establishment of institutions for girls, such as two new cadet colleges and the Asian University for Women. 

The role of education in empowering women, noting the Food for Education Program and free secondary education for girls in rural areas, he added. 

He concluded by stressing the importance of women’s rights for global progress and called for a collective effort to ensure women’s active participation and equality in all aspects of life.
