DHAKA: Newly elected Chittagong City Corporation mayor Manjur Alam Manju deferred his preset visit to former president Ziaur Rahman’s tomb Wednesday by a day in view of BNP’s countrywide human-chain protest.

Earlier it was scheduled that the CCC mayor would pay tribute to the party founder on Wednesday noon. Instead, he will visit Zia’s eternal resting place Thursday at about 11am.

Following the new schedule, Manju, who crossed the floor from the ruling Awami League into the incumbent opposition BNP before the cit polls and triumphed, would reach Dhaka on Thursday morning.
 
Later, he will meet BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office in the evening.
