DHAKA: Opposition leader and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia said that the recent agreement with India was not with Bangladesh but with Awami League, once again disapproving of the deal.

Speaking to a group of leaders who came to join BNP at her Gulshan office, the ex-PM said, “It is the Awami League that entered into agreement with India. By no means was it an agreement between Bangladesh and India.”

A day after making a public call for scrapping the treaty, she further said the ruling Awami League will have to shoulder the responsibility for the agreement. “They will have to implement the conditions of agreement after their exit from power.”

Khaleda told her audience that the country is not safe under Awami League government. “The present government is not running the country--they are being guided by some ones else,” she said.

The BNP chairperson asked the party leaders and workers to work together to strengthen the party.

Before Khaleda spoke, a group of leaders and workers led by Barguna Upazila Chairman MA Khaleq joined BNP.
