DHAKA: Speakers at a discussion here on Sunday vowed to implement the verdict of Bangabandhu killing case and brought the war criminals to justice for fulfilling the aspiration of the nation.

They said the war criminals and killers of August 15 and four national leaders are linked together, so proper steps would have to be taken against them through implementing the verdict.

The Dhaka University authorities organized the discussion at the TSC auditorium in the morning marking the National Mourning Day. DU Vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique presided over the discussion.

In his speech, VC Arefin Siddique said, “A total darkness had fallen on the history of the nation with the killing of Bangabandhu. And we couldn’t yet overcome the situation. We’ll have to get out from the situation through implementing the verdict of Bangabandhu killing case completely bringing back the fugitive convicts from abroad.”

He placed a proposal to form a commission for making aware the people about the information relating to Bangabandhu’s killing, saying, “We have to unmask those involved in the 1975 assassination to avoid the repetition of such incident”.

DU Pro Vice-Chancellor Harun or Rashid claimed BNP founder Ziaur Rahman was aware about the killing of Bangabandhu.

“Ziaur Rahman had a clandestine meeting with Bangabandhu’s killer Col Faruque in March 1975”, he said.

Dhaka University Teacher’s Association President Professor Khandaker Bazlul Haque, senate and syndicate member Professor Md. Akhtaruzzaman, senate member Anwar Hossain also spoke at the meeting moderated by DU Register Rezaur Rahman.

Prior to the meeting, a one minute silence was observed for paying homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members.
