GAIBANDHA: A dawn to dusk hartal, enforced by the Sundarganj Upazila Awami League unit, has been observed in municipal area of the district on Sunday (January 1) protesting Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) MP Manjurul Islam Liton murder.

The protesters halted the Shantahar-bound Bogra mail train coming from Lalmonirhat in Bamondanga area.

However, shops were closed and black flags were hoisted in the shops. The vehicle plying was also remained stop during the strike.

On the other hand, additional police forcers have been deployed in the area to avert any unwanted situation.

Earlier on Saturday, unknown assailants shot the ruling Awami League lawmaker inside his home at 6:00pm and was declared dead at 7:40pm after he had been taken to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.
