COMILLA: Awami League and BNP’s nominated mayoral candidates for the upcoming Comilla City Corporation (CCC) polls have submitted their nomination papers on Thursday (March 02), the last day of nomination submission.
Awami League’s candidate Anjum Sultana Sima submitted her nomination paper at about 11:00 am to the returning officer Rakibuddin Mandal while BNP’s candidate Monirul Haque Sakku submitted his nomination paper at about 12:00 noon.
During nomination filing, Anjum Sultana Sima was accompanied by her father and former senior joint convener of Comilla district Awami League Principal Afzal Khan, former administrator of Zilla Parishad Omar Faruk, joint general secretary of district Awami League Sajjad Hossain Swapan, AL leaders Shafik Shikder and Nur ur Rahman Mahmud Tanim and others.
After her nomination filing, Anjum Sultana Sima told journalists that she wants help and supports from all. She is optimistic about her victory in the polls.
Meanwhile, Monirul Haque Sakku was accompanied by BNP’s standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, publicity secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and some other BNP leaders and workers during his nomination filing.
The BNP nominated candidate told journalists that they want level-playing field in the polls. He is also hopeful about his victory.
BNP’s standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan called upon the Election Commission to play neutral role. “We hope that the EC will prove its neutrality through the CCC polls. He urged the dwellers of Comilla city to vote for the BNP’s candidate.”
