156 UPs polls end, vote counting begins

DHAKA: The polls to 156 Union Parishads (UPs) in the country has ended amid sporadic violence and report of irregularities in some areas.  

The officials started counting ballots of the polls after voting closed at 4:00 pm on Sunday (April 16).

Voting to the UPs began at 8:00 am and continued until 4:00 pm without any break

Of the 156 UPs, regular elections were held in 35 UPs, while by-polls in 89 UPs and re-elections were held in 12 UPs.

Deputy Secretary of the Election Commission (EC) Farhad Ahammad Khan said that the commission declared election schedule for a total of 174 UPs, but elections to 20 UPs have been postponed due to complexities.
