DHAKA: BNP vice-chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu has expressed doubt whether the ruling Awami League will take part in the next general elections.
He was speaking at a human chain program in front of the National Press Club in the city on Sunday (May 07).
Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Dal, a pro-BNP organization, arranged the program demanding the release of BNP’s joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokon and other political prisoners.
President of the organization Humayun Kabir Bepari presided over the program, while secretary general of Bangladesh NAP M Golam Mustafa Bhuiyan and secretary general of Jatiya Gonotantrik Party (Jagpa) also addressed it, among others.
Shamsuzzaman Dudu said that the ruling Awami League wants to hold the next general elections under a partisan government to cling to the power. If the election is held under an election-time neutral government there is doubt whether the Awami League will take part in it, he commented.
The BNP leader said that a non-party election time government will be established through street movement and dialogue.
He demanded immediate and unconditional release of Khairul Kabir Khokon and other leaders and workers of his party.
