DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia paid homage to the party founder and former president Ziaur Rahman, marking his 36th death anniversary on Tuesday (May 30).
Accompanied with some top leaders of the party, Khaleda placed floral wreaths at the graveyard of Ziaur Rahman, in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar at around 11:15 am.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Vice chairman Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, Organizational secretary Shama Obaid, Dhaka Metropolitan South unit president Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel and Jubo Dal Secretary general Sultan Salauddin Tuku were among others present there.
Different associate wings of BNP—Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, Mohila Dal, Krishak Dal, Sramik Dal, Tati Dal, Motsojibi Dal, Swecchasebok Dal, Muktijudder Projonmo, Trinomool Dal, Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) and Dhaka Metropolitan North and South units of the party also joined there to offer prayers marking their late president’s death anniversary.
Later, Khaleda Zia attended a Quran verses recitation program and Dua mahfil administrated by Jatiyatabadi Olama Dal, at the tomb complex in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
