DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has accused the ruling Awami League of attacking her party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and his motorcade.
The BNP chief made the accusation in a press statement issued on Sunday afternoon (June 18), hours after the attack at Rangunia upazila in Chittagong district.
Earlier in the morning, the miscreants attacked on the motorcade of Mirza Fakhrul and vandalized at least five vehicles. Mirza Fakhrul, who was leading a five-member delegation of the party on the way to Rangamati to visit landslides affected people, was injured in the attack.
In the statement, Khaleda Zia said, “The ruling party men attacked on the motorcade. They also assaulted Mirza Fakhrul physically. The government encouraged the ruling party cadres to launch the attack on the BNP leader in a bid to erase democracy from the country,” she said.
The BNP chief also said that the notorious attack reflects the unhealthy politics and the politics of vengeance of the ruling Awami League.
She came down heavily on the government for the attack.
