DHAKA: Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan on Saturday urged opposition BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to throw away the ‘daydream’ of caretaker government for next general polls.

The shipping minister came up with the plea while addressing a programme organized by Kazi Aref Foundation and Bangabandhu Children Welfare Foundation at Dhaka Reporters Unity in the city.

He said, “The next general elections will be held as per the democratic norms like other democratic countries of the world and caretaker government is wrapped up for the next polls.”

Commemorating Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, the lawmaker said, “There are two genres in politics of the country and one is democracy initiated by Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy and Banggabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahaman, another is conspiracy against national interest.”

He alleged Khaleda Zia as a follower of the second one genre.

The programme was organized marking the birth anniversary of brain-child of democracy Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy.
