BML wants Army deployment, cases withdrawal before polls

DHAKA: Bangladesh Muslim League (BML), a partner of the BNP-led 20-party alliance, wants withdrawal of political cases and deployment of army with magistracy power before the next general elections.

The party expressed the wishes at the dialogue of the Election Commission (EC) held at the conference room of the EC Secretariat Building at Agargoan in the city on Monday (August 28).

A 10-memebr delegation led by the BML president Dr AHM Quamruzzaman joined the dialogue with the commission.

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda chaired the talks while other commissioners of the EC, its acting secretary and other high officials attended at the time.

After the dialogue, Quamruzzaman told journalists that they placed 11-point recommendation.

He said that they asked the EC to hold the next polls under a neutral government system.

The talks with the BML began at about 11:00 am and ended at about 1:00 pm. Later, the EC sat with Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish.

The dialogue with political parties began through holding talks with the Muslim League. The Commission will also sit with four other political parties, two parties each day, before the Eid-ul-Azha.

The EC started dialogue through holding talks with the civil society members on July 31.
