KHAGRACHARI: BNP claimed that at least 26 leaders and activists of it were injured as police charged batons while they were trying to form a human chain in Khagrachari Friday (September 8).
A clash erupted among policemen and the BNP men at around 10:30 in the morning.
District BNP unit sources said that police obstructed them while they were intending to form a human chain in front of Khagrachari Press Club, protesting the ongoing torture on Rohingyas in Myanmar and demanding for shelter to the refugees who came Bangladesh after fleeing Myanmar.
Later, the BNP leaders and activists locked in a clash with the police members following a scuffle over staging the scheduled program at Bhanga Bridge area afterwards.
Khagrachari BNP unit condemned the incident.
Contacted, Khagrachari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tareque M Abdul Hannan told Banglanews that police obstructed the human chain as it was not permitted to arrange.
Being denied, the BNP leaders and activists hurled brick chunks at the policemen, he added.
