CHITTAGONJ: Former President and Jatiya Party’s Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad has said that although his party is a factor for the next general elections, it is not possible for him to predict about the polls.
He said this while talking to reporters at the hotel- Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden in the capital city on Wednesday (December 27).
When asked about BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s statement about Jatiya Party’s stance, he said that he is unaware about the statement, but preparations have taken to join the elections lonely.
Ershad said, “Mirza Fakhrul’s statement proves that Jatiya Party is a factor for the polls. Everybody wants us. However, where would we go, how would we run elections, all of it depends on us, our activists, and leaders. We will take decision how we run election.”
He also said, "For the time being, we are in coalition with the Awami League. It is not possible for me to predict what will happen in future, how elections are going to be held.”
Replying to a question, he said that it would not be wise to talk about the polls now, but Awami League is a much stronger party than before. “We are getting organized. We have 300 candidates. However, we are not sure how many candidates would win,” he said.
