DHAKA: Jamiyate Ulamaye Islam Bangladesh, a partner of the BNP-led 20-party alliance, has announced a new committee   making Mufti Mohammad Waqqas as president and Maulana Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as secretary general of the party.

The announcement came from a national convention of the party held at the National Press Club in the city on Thursday (January 11).

The party’s vice president Maulana Mansurul Hasan Raipuri presided over the function.

The convention announced 101-member new committee. Maualana Golam Rahman, Maulana Abdur Rahim Islamabadi, Maualan Prof Toyebur Rahman Chowdhury, Maulana Mahbubur Rahman, Mufti Kefayetullah, Maulana Wali Ullah Arman and Hafiz Rashid Ahmed were made vice presidents.

The speakers of the convention said that a vested quarter is hatching conspiracy in the name of Jamiyate Ulamaye Islam. They vowed to face the conspiracy.

It is mentionable that Jamiyate Ulamaye Islam was split into two factions. Mufti Waqqas, also a former state minister for religion and social welfare, is leading the faction, while Maulana Noor Hossain Quashemi is leading another faction.

Mufti Waqqas-led party earlier expelled some leaders of the other faction, while the other faction expelled Mufti Waqqas and some other leaders from the party.

Both the factions are claiming that they are the partner of 20-party alliance.
