BNP demands army deployment in DNCC by-polls

DHAKA: The BNP has demanded army deployment in the upcoming mayoral-by polls to the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

The party’s senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed raised the demand at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the city on Monday (January 15).

Rizvi Ahmed said that the widespread irregularities and the vote rigging took place during the last mayoral polls held in 2015. The city dwellers did not cast their votes in the polls.

“BNP is joining the polls although no election under the government was held in free and fair atmosphere. We are taking party in the city polls as part our movement,” he said.

The BNP leader called upon the city dwellers to ensure the victory of his-party backed candidate.
