DHAKA: BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman will lead the party as her mother BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has landed in jail in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case, said Standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan.
Tarique and four others were also given 10-years in jail each while Khaleda given 5-years’ jail-term in the same case.
Nazrul Islam Khan said on Thursday noon (February 8) that the last meeting of BNP Standing committee also decided that Tarique wll lead BNP.
Tarique, however, has been living in London for nine years.
On Thursday, a Dhaka court handed over the jail term to the six including Khaleda and Tarique.
In July 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case accusing them for misappropriating over Tk 2.1 crore grant money for orphans.
