RAJSHAHI: Police arrested seven Islami Shibir activists from the Rajshahi University campus on Thursday evening in connection with the killing of Faruque, an activist of Chhatra League, during a recent mayhem at the varsity.

The arrested Shibir men are Mezbah, Mamun, Shamin, Abdul Bari, Nazmul Islam, Hossain Ali and Muhammad Muhsin. All of them are sophomores of Arabic Department of the university.

Police arrested them from Shahidullah Arts Building when they came out from the examination hall finishing their second-year final examination.

In protest against the arrests, Shibir activists brought out a procession at about 8:00pm on the campus. “Some cocktail blasts were heard at the time,” says a campus source.

Faruque was killed in a fierce clash between Shibir and Chhatra League few months ago.
