Primary and Mass Education Adviser Professor Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Podder said on Saturday (Jan 11) that all textbooks would be distributed among the students by January.
He said, "We have successfully delivered all the books for students from classes one to three at the beginning of the year. However, due to revisions and the cancellation of an external tender, there has been a delay in delivering books for some other classes."
He further said, "Books for classes four and five are currently being printed, and we are closely monitoring the process. All books will be delivered to students by January."
Dr. Poddar shared these updates while talking to reporters after a meeting with 10th-grade officials of the National Academy for Primary Education (NEAP) in Mymensingh on Saturday morning (January 11).
He said, "Relying solely on textbooks often leads to poor outcomes in children's overall development. Alongside academics, participation in sports and cultural activities is crucial. Teachers and parents must be aware of this and encourage a balanced approach to education."
Regarding efforts to enhance education quality, he said, "Private educational institutions are being brought under a registration system to reduce costs and ensure adherence to standardized regulations. This initiative has already started, and we aim to supervise these institutions effectively to maintain consistency."
In response to a question about the declining number of students in primary schools, the adviser mentioned multiple factors, including the lingering effects of COVID-19, changes in examination systems, and the dissatisfaction of parents with end-of-year evaluations.
"Many children have left primary schools to join other institutions. To address this, we have revised the examination system. It now includes both in-class assessments and evaluations every four months. We believe this approach will better align with parents' expectations and improve outcomes. Ultimately, it is crucial to create a system where children can excel academically and holistically," he added.
National Academy for Primary Education (NAPE), Mymensingh Director Farid Ahmed, Deputy Director Sadia Ummul Banin, District Primary Education Officer Mizanur Rahman Khan, and other officials attended the event.
Later, adviser Dr. Poddar inaugurated a basic training workshop for grade 10 officials.
