Truck plunge kills 2 in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ: Two people were killed in a road accident in Kushtia area under Shibaloy upazila of the district early Tuesday.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Highway police sub-inspector Nazmul Ahsan told banglanews that a furniture-loaded truck plunged into a canal after breaking down the railing of a bridge at around 8:30am, leaving two people dead in the spot and injured two others.

On information, police forces from Barongail highway and Shibaloy thana and divers from Ghior fire service and a team of army rushed to the spot and are trying to rescue the truck.

Shibaloy thana officer-in-charge Abul Kalam Azad told banglanews that two critically injured were sent to Uthuli Upazila Health Complex.

It is suspected that the truck plunged into the canal as its driver lost control over the steering for poor visibility due to dense fog, he added.
