Death references on 10-truck arms haul at HC

DHAKA: The reference of death awarded to 14 convicts, including two former ministers Matiur Rahman Nizami and Lutfozzaman Babar of then BNP-led 4-party alliance government, has reached to High Court.   
 
Supreme Court registrar AKM Shamsul Alam conveyed the new development to banglanews on Thursday.
 
Alam added that the hearing would take place after the paper book isAfter preparing paper book is ready.   
 
A Chittagong Special Tribunal on Tuesday released the full verdict of the two cases of the much talked about 10-truck arms haul.   
 
The tribunal released its 254-page order in arms haul case and 260-page judgment in the smuggling case along with 16 pages of observation.
 
The full verdict was duly signed by Special Tribunal-1 Judge SM Mujibur Rahman.  
 
The tribunal would send copies of the full verdict to the Supreme Court and jail authorities very soon, said tribunal sources.    
 
In the full verdict, the tribunal observed that the arms were meant to boost the firepower of Indian separatist group United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA).
 
On January 30, the court sentenced 14, including two former ministers Matiur Rahman Nizami and Lutfozzaman Babar of the then BNP-led 4-party alliance government, to death in arms smuggling case of the 10-truck arms haul.
 
The 14 convicts were also awarded life term imprisonment in the arms case.
 
Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge and Special Tribunal-1 Judge SM Mojibur Rahman had delivered the verdict.
 
Among those handed the death sentence, Paresh Barua, military commander of ULFA, is reportedly hiding in China.
