A Dhaka court today rejected the bail plea of former Upazila Chairman Laila Kaniz, wife of former National Board of Revenue (NBR) member Matiur Rahman, in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The ruling came after a hearing by Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib.
The court also scheduled January 26 for a hearing on the ACC's request for a seven-day remand to further investigate Kaniz's alleged involvement in illegal wealth accumulation and misuse of power.
Kaniz and her husband were arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Police on January 15.
Matiur Rahman has been linked to multiple corruption cases, while Kaniz is accused of amassing illegal wealth totaling Taka 13.58 crore.
The ACC is also investigating the concealment of an additional Taka 1.53 crore in assets.
