NASA astronaut Joseph Acaba to visit Dhaka

Joseph M. Acaba, NASA's chief astronaut, is set to visit Dhaka for the first time to engage with the country’s youth, academic institutions, and media.

The US Embassy in Dhaka announced on Friday (Dec 13) that Acaba’s visit will include interactive sessions with students to inspire them to pursue careers in space science, robotics, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.

During his visit, Acaba will discuss the role of space exploration in advancing technology and addressing global challenges, particularly climate change.

In addition to institutional events, Acaba will participate in a television interview to highlight NASA’s contributions to global science and technology. He will also discuss how Bangladesh can benefit from collaboration in space research and innovation, with a focus on the importance of the Artemis Accords.

The Artemis Accords promote safe, peaceful, and prosperous use of space and are expected to strengthen collaboration between NASA and Bangladesh’s growing space and technology sectors.

Acaba, a former teacher, hydrogeologist, and Peace Corps volunteer, was appointed as NASA's Chief Astronaut in 2023. He has participated in three space missions, spending over 306 days in space, including spacewalks and groundbreaking scientific research on the International Space Station.
