Bangladesh media enjoys full freedom: CA Press Secretary

Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam today (Dec 14) said that the media in Bangladesh is enjoying the highest level of freedom under the current interim government, highlighting its commitment to full freedom of journalism.

He said, "We have not interfered with anyone's ability to write against the government... In the history of Bangladesh, the press has never had such freedom."

Shafiqul Alam made the remarks while speaking at a discussion titled "The Role of Media in Building New Bangladesh" organized by MASTUL Foundation at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the capital.

Expressing the interim government's vision of a Bangladesh where journalists can report without fear of harm, he further said that the government wants a media environment where no journalist is injured in the line of duty.

While discussing the safety of journalists, Alam said the responsibility for journalists' welfare extends beyond the government and security agencies.

He said that media owners also play a role, noting that many fail to provide the necessary safety equipment for reporters working in hazardous conditions.

"The photographers and video journalists often cover dangerous events, risking their lives in the process," he added.
