DMP bans gatherings near Ijtema ground after clashes

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned all forms of gatherings, including rallies, processions, and protests, in areas near the Ijtema ground following clashes between two factions over control of the venue. 

The areas of Kamarpara, Abdullahpur, Uttara Sector-10, and the southern and western areas of the Turag River will remain banned until further notice.

The decision, signed by the DMP Commissioner, was announced in a public notice on Wednesday (Dec 18) afternoon.

Earlier, the clashes which occurred late Tuesday night at Tongi's Ijtema ground, involved supporters of Maulana Saad Kandhalvi and Maulana Jubair. 

The incident, three people were killed, and over 100 others were injured. 

Following the incident, four platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed to control the situation.

Meanwhile, followers of Maulana Saad Kandhalvi have vacated the Ijtema ground and expressed regret over the deadly confrontation.
