The Gazipur Metropolitan Police has banned public entry to the Tongi Ijtema ground from 2:00 PM on Wednesday (Dec 18). 

A notice signed by Police Commissioner Md. Nazmul Karim Khan confirmed the matter.

According to the notice, under sections 30 and 31 of the Gazipur Metropolitan Police Act 2018, states that the ban will remain in effect until further notice for a 3-kilometer radius around the Ijtema ground.

The decision follows a violent clash between the Maulana Saad and Maulana Jubayer factions over control of the Ijtema ground, which resulted in three deaths and over 100 injuries. 

However, later four platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in the area to restore order.
