Police recover 3 bodies from Benapole River

Police recovered the bodies of three young men from the Ichamati River and its banks in Benapole's border area of Jashore within six hours on Wednesday (Dec 18).

One body was found floating in the river near the Panchbhulot border under Sharsha Police Station, while two others were discovered along the riverbank.

The deceased were identified as Sakib Hossain, son of Jamil Dhali from Dighirpar village under Benapole Port Police Station. His grandfather, Jobed Ali, confirmed that Sakib, a truck helper, went out for work on Tuesday afternoon and did not return.

Lieutenant Colonel Khurshid Ahmed, commanding officer of Khulna 21-BGB Battalion, said that they recovered the floating body and handed it over to the police. However, the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) denied any involvement when queried about the incident.

Earlier in the morning, two other bodies were recovered—Jahangir Kabir, 37, from Kagoj Pukur village, and Sabur Ali, 35, from Dighirpar village.

Jahangir’s brother said he had been living in India for 15 years and recently returned to Bangladesh illegally due to visa issues. He was reportedly heading back to India on Tuesday night when his body was found the next morning.

Sabur's wife said they found him unconscious near the riverbank and were taking him home when he died.

Benapole Port Police Station Officer-in-Charge Russel Mia stated that the bodies were sent to Jashore 250-bed Hospital morgue for autopsy. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause and circumstances of the deaths.
