The Anti-Discrimination Students' Movement has rejected Election Reform Commission Chief Badiul Alam Majumdar's statement that there is no bar for the Awami League to participate in the next national elections.
Umama Fatema, spokesperson of the organization, issued a press release in this regard on Thursday (Dec 19).
According to press release, allowing Awami League to participate in elections or any political activities would dishonour the blood of those who died in the July uprising.
The statement alleged that the Awami League is responsible for multiple genocides in Bangladesh, including the recent July massacre, which claimed around 2,000 lives and left over 30,000 people injured or disabled. It further accused the Awami League of engaging in enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and other human rights violations over the past 16 years.
Anti-Discrimination Students' Movement at this time criticized the Awami League for manipulating the last three elections and tarnishing the electoral system.
In the end the organization called on the Election Reform Commission to withdraw its remarks and take steps to prevent the Awami League from participating in any political activities, including elections.
