Fifteen Bangladeshi nationals, including nine women and six children, returned to the country via the Benapole check post last night after serving two years in an Indian jail.

The Petrapole Immigration Police handed them over to the Benapole Immigration Police around 10:30 pm. 

Following their return, the non-governmental organization Rights Jashore provided them with temporary shelter.

They are expected to reunite with their families later today, according to Ibrahim Ahmed, the officer-in-charge of Benapole Immigration Police.

The returnees, hailing from various parts of Narail, Khulna, and Sathkhira districts, were victims of human trafficking. 

Around two and a half years ago, traffickers lured them to Mumbai, India, with promises of work in exchange for money. However, upon arrival, the traffickers abandoned them at a railway station in Mumbai and fled.

They were subsequently arrested by railway police, presented in court, and sentenced to two years in prison.
