Hasanat Abdullah criticizes interim govt's leniency to AL allies

Anti-Discrimination Student Movement coordinator Hasanat Abdullah accused the interim government of showing leniency toward allies of the ousted Awami League administration.

He warned that such leniency could have long-term negative consequences for the nation.

Hasanat expressed his concerns, in a Facebook post on Thursday (Dec 26) morning, saying, "The consequences of showing leniency towards enablers of fascism will haunt this ill-fated nation forever."

He alleged that the people, who previously benefited under Sheikh Hasina's rule, are now using human rights rhetoric to gain sympathy for the fascists.

Calling for an end to such campaigns, he warned, "If this campaign cannot be stopped, the consequences will be dire—not just for bureaucrats today, but for others tomorrow."

The remarks come amid ongoing public administration reforms initiated by the interim government.

On December 17, Abdul Muid Chowdhury, head of the Public Administration Reform Commission, proposed changes to promotion processes for deputy secretaries and reducing the administrative cadre’s quota in these roles from 75% to 50%.

This suggestion sparked outrage among civil servants, with around 1,500 current and former administration cadre officials holding a protest in Dhaka on Wednesday.
