Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus describing former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh as a close friend expressed deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences on his demise.
Muhammad Yunus expressed his condolences to the Prime Minister of India and the President of the Indian National Congress.
In his messages, Prof. Yunus paid tribute to Dr. Singh, calling him a person of immense humility, a visionary leader, and a statesman renowned for his steadfast dedication to the welfare of the Indian people.
He emphasized that Dr. Singh's contributions to India's economic progress will always be remembered. Prof. Yunus also noted that his leadership not only shaped India's future but also played a significant role in strengthening the bond of friendship and cooperation between Bangladesh and India.
Highlighting Dr. Singh’s commitment to regional harmony, Prof. Yunus praised his vision for advancing peace, prosperity, and collaboration in South Asia. He urged the countries in the region to honor Dr. Singh's legacy by working together to achieve shared goals.
Prof. Yunus fondly recalled his cherished memories with Dr. Singh, including the warm congratulatory message he received from the late leader after winning the Nobel Peace Prize in October 2006. He also reminisced about their meetings in January 2007 in New Delhi and in December 2009, when Prof. Yunus was invited to deliver the 2nd Prof. Hiren Mukerjee Annual Parliamentary Lecture, attended by members of both houses of Parliament, including the Speaker of the Rajya Sabha.
On behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh, Prof. Yunus conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Dr. Singh’s family and to the government and people of India.
