At least 310 students from schools, colleges, universities, and madrasas across Bangladesh committed suicide in 2024.
A recent survey by the Aachol Foundation also revealed that 189 (61%) of the victims were female students.
Presented at a virtual press conference on January 18, the report highlighted that secondary-level students were the most affected, with madrasa students also among those who took their own lives.
The findings were based on an analysis of 105 national and local newspapers.
While the number of suicides has declined from 532 in 2022 to 513 in 2023, the foundation suggested that the lower figure in 2024 may be due to underreporting, possibly influenced by political circumstances.
The organization emphasized the urgent need for action, recommending the establishment of counseling services in schools to address the crisis.
