ICT issues arrest warrants against 2 AL leaders, 6 cops

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today (Jan 27) issued arrest warrants against two Awami League (AL) leaders and six police officers for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the July-August mass uprising last year.

ICT Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam disclosed the information at a press briefing following the court proceedings.

He stated that the ICT investigation agency had found evidence linking the accused to murders committed in Dhaka during the uprising.

Among those facing arrest, two are influential AL leaders, while the remaining six are senior and mid-ranking police officials.

The ICT chief further mentioned that the tribunal and prosecution refrained from revealing their identities to prevent the accused from fleeing the country to evade justice.

The prosecution filed four separate petitions requesting the tribunal to issue the arrest warrants.
