Six injured in explosion while preparing Sahri in Chandpur

Six members of a family sustained burn injuries in an explosion while preparing for Sahri at a flat in Chandpur early today.

The incident occurred around 4:10 AM on the fourth floor of a six-storey building on Koralia Road.

The injured individuals include 65-year-old Abdur Rahman, his wife Shanu Begum, 55, their eldest son Imam Hossain, 40, his wife Khadija Akter, 30, their middle son's wife Diba Akter, 20, and their youngest son, Moin Hossain, 20.

Abdur, Shanu, Khadija, and Moin are critically injured and have been transferred to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.

Imam and Diba are receiving treatment at Chandpur General Hospital.

Eyewitnesses suggest that a gas leak caused the explosion when the family attempted to ignite the stove for Sahri preparations.

The fire quickly spread, engulfing several rooms.

Three other occupants, who were in a different room, escaped unharmed.

Neighbors quickly intervened, helping to control the fire and rescue the injured family members. Authorities are investigating the cause of the gas leak and explosion.
