Law Advisor Asif Nazrul on Wednesday (March 12) said a draft for amending the rape law has been prepared and will be finalized within the next few days.
He made the remarks while talking to reporters at the Secretariat.
Law Adviser said the draft would be submitted for final approval soon.
Earlier, Asif Nazrul held a meeting with leaders of the Anti-Rape Platform, where a 25-member delegation was present. He informed them about the government's steps to amend the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Nazrul said that consultations were held on Monday and Tuesday with relevant stakeholders. The draft amendment has been circulated among key stakeholders, and efforts are being made to strengthen the law as soon as possible.
The Adviser also said that the amendments aim to ensure not only speedy trials but also fair and effective justice for rape cases.
Following the meeting, representatives of the Anti-Rape Platform said they believe implementing five key demands properly would help reduce rape incidents. They also stressed monitoring the trial process of the Magura incident.
